October 2024: War Memorial Unveiled

People from the village gathered at the War Memorial for the traditional

Remembrance Service, with uniformed groups on parade with flags.

This was the first time a new Memorial Board showing the soldiers who

fell during World War II, which had been created by members of the

Parish Archive Group, had been on display.

Many onlookers gave their views on the new Board:

"It's very good, a grand job."

"It makes the names and the fallen more personal."

"It's very personal."

"It's very good that it's brought the past to life but it would be nice to

acknowledge what's happening now and who have given their lives more recently. "

"It's interesting and lively."

"Very impressive. It makes people pay attention."

A serving Royal Engineer who visited from outside the village thought the idea of the Board was a very good idea.

Generous Donation from Newbold Verdon Open Gardens' Event

In November 2024, the Parish Archive Group gratefully

accepted a donation of £200 towards the work of the

Group.

The money was part of the amount collected during the

village Open Gardens' event that summer.

Open Gardens' committee member Pete Gilbert presented the

donation to the Group during their meeting at the Library.
